Product Description

The Adenium Flower Plant, also known as the Desert Rose, is a beautiful ornamental plant admired for its attractive flowers, thick stem, and unique appearance. It produces stunning, trumpet-shaped flowers in vibrant shades of pink, red, white, purple, and mixed colours, adding a touch of elegance to any garden, balcony, or indoor space. Its swollen, sculptural stem and glossy green leaves make it an attractive decorative plant even when it is not flowering.

Adenium is a sun-loving plant that thrives in warm climates and requires plenty of sunlight for healthy growth and abundant flowering. It prefers well-drained soil and moderate watering, as excess water can cause root rot. This low-maintenance plant is ideal for garden lovers, beginners, and plant collectors.

Perfect for decorating balconies, terraces, gardens, patios, and outdoor spaces, the Adenium Flower Plant can also be grown beautifully in decorative pots and containers. With proper sunlight and care, it rewards you with gorgeous blooms and a charming appearance throughout the flowering season.

BOTANICAL OVERVIEW & PROFILE

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Adenium obesum (Family: Apocynaceae)

COMMON NAMES: Desert Rose, Sabi Star, Impala Lily, Mock Azalea, Bangkok kalachuchi.

PLANT TYPE: Deciduous flowering succulent.

SIZE: Can reach 3–9 feet tall in the wild, but typically stays between 1–3 feet when grown in containers

BLOOM TIME: Chiefly flushes during summer and warm seasons (early spring to mid-summer), producing clusters of red, pink, white, purple, or bicolour bell-shaped petals.

ESSENTIAL CARE REQUIREMENTS

Adeniums are remarkably resilient and thrive on neglect, making them perfect for busy gardeners. However, their desert origins dictate very specific care:

SUNLIGHT: Requires 6 to 8 hours of direct daily sunlight. Insufficient sun causes the branches to grow thin and "leggy" with sparse blooms. Note for hot climates: If summer temperatures regularly exceed 40°C (like parts of North India), shield them from the punishing mid-day glare.

WATERING: Follow a strict "soak and dry" cycle. Water thoroughly only when the potting mix has completely dried out. Overwatering is the quickest way to cause fatal root or caudex rot.

SOIL: They must have highly porous, sharp-draining medium. A mix of coarse river sand, gravel, and organic manure or a commercial cactus/succulent potting mix works best.

TEMPERATURE & DORMANCY: They thrive in temperatures between 21°C–38°C (70°F–90°F). When temperatures drop below 10°C–12°C (50°F–55°F) in winter, the plant goes dormant, naturally shedding its leaves. Drastically cut back watering during this rest phase.

IMPORTANT PROPAGATION & SAFETY FACTS

GRAFTING VS. SEEDLINGS: Most premium or multi-coloured varieties are propagated by grafting onto robust rootstocks because plants grown from seed rarely look identical to the parent plant.

SEVERE TOXICITY: All parts of the Adenium plant are highly toxic. The milky sap contains cardiac glycosides, which can cause severe skin irritation (contact dermatitis) upon touch and is hazardous if ingested by humans, cats, dogs, or livestock. Historically, this potent sap was utilized across Africa as an arrow poison for hunting large game. Always wear gloves when pruning or repotting.
